Priorities of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects of “Baku Steel Company” CJSC (BSC) are support to the development of education and sports, implementation of various social projects, and environmental protection.
“Education is the future of the nation” - this statement of the national leader Heydar Aiyev is used as a main thesis in BSC CSR projects. As a support to the education of the youth, BSC gave valuable presents to the children of the company’s employees who were admitted to higher education institutions with high grades.
To support education, the Company has become an official partner of the “IT Academy” project intended to train IT specialists for the establishment of an ecosystem based on the evolution of the digital economy in Azerbaijan and high technologies. “IT Academy” is a joint educational project of the Ministry of Economy of the Azerbaijan Republic and the Ministry of Science and Education of the Azerbaijan Republic for those desiring to obtain a new profession in the field of information technologies. The project was implemented with the participation of “Algorithm” international programming school operating in 55 countries of the world, including Azerbaijan. Within the framework of the “IT Academy” project, the students learned the most demanded IT professions in the labor market - web designer, QA engineer (testing/quality control), and system administrator - from scratch. During training, the students gained unique professional experience and practical skills for the resolution of real problems.
BSC also supports the daily gain of the value of our country's human capital and the on-the-job training of qualified personnel. Over the past 2 years up to 1000 students from the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University; Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Azerbaijan Technical University, Baku Engineering University, Sumgayit State Vocational Education Centre for Industry and High Technologies, “Orta Dogu” Technical University of Turkey, Bursa Technical University, “Yildiz” Technical University received practical trainings at our enterprise. BSC continuously initiates environmental projects. Thus, every year we implement social responsibility projects together with “Nargis” Publishing House with the intention to bring the ecological problem to the public attention through art pieces. Within the framework of these projects, art pieces made of garbage collected from various areas of the capital during the cleaning operations were exhibited. Expositions of BSC were presented at the ecological exhibitions of such projects, as “Go Green”, “Planet Calling”, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Respect”, and “Make the Earth Smile” and currently they decorate the front of the administrative building of the Company.
BSC also arranges ecological workshops for its employees presented by the specialists of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Azerbaijan Republic and intended to promote environmental protection and efficient use of natural resources. Information about the protection of the environment, vegetation, ambient air, ecological safety, as well as efficient use of natural resources captures the attention of workshop participants and is remembered for active discussions.
BSC also actively participates in tree planting actions organized by the Executive authorities of Narimanov and Binagadi districts, as well as Sumgayit City for the protection of the ecosystem and biodiversity of Azerbaijan and landscaping. It is not a mere chance that BSC carried out a number of planting and landscaping activities on the company territory during the reconstruction stage and, what is most importantly, that the company built constructed gas and dust collecting devices to remove dust and dirt generated during the production process. This device helps to filter and clean dust and toxic air and releases air safe for human health.
Every year, as a part of CSR projects, BSC organizes blood donation campaigns together with the National Centre for Haematology and Transfusion, aimed at helping people suffering from thalassemia.
Provision of social assistance to veterans of war who fought for the territorial integrity of our Motherland, martyr families, as well as low-income families during various holidays is an integral part of BSC CSR projects. The Company continuously holds events for the improvement of the social welfare of this population group.
BSC actively participated in the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of National leader Heydar Aliyev, and the team of company employees showed high results in sports and athletic contests organized by the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation.
