Iron Heritage
Mushfig Heydarov | Azerbaijan
Mushfig Heydarov studied at the Azim Azimzadeh College of Art and later at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts, specializing in Sculpture. He combines classical traditions with modern approaches in his works, particularly reinterpreting traditional Azerbaijani carpet motifs, adding elements of contemporary art to breathe new life into these ancient symbols.
For the “Baku Steel Art 2024” metal symposium, Mushfig Heydarov created the sculpture “Iron Heritage”: “For me, carpets are not just decorative elements, but living artworks that symbolize historical and cultural values. My work for this symposium is an example of this cultural heritage. The carpet, despite the changes occurring in the world, represents the strength and continuity of traditions passed down from generation to generation. The piece highlights the contrast between heavy metal and the soft texture of actual carpets, creating a dialogue between form and content.”
