Equipment In its operations Baku Steel Company CJSC uses state-of-art equipment with minimum impact on the environment. The main technological assembly of the company used for steel melting and rolling operations is fully automated.
In 2012-2013, the plant was equipped with technologically advanced “Ultimate-2” electric arc furnace of Siemens VAI (Germany) with a tapping weight of 60 tons and reconstructed furnace-ladle equipment for injection of oxygen and argon gas into the liquid steel outside the furnace.
In 2021-2022, a new 4-strand Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) manufactured by “Demora”, Turkey was erected in the plant. This machine uses sealed sources of cobalt-60 to control the meniscus level of liquid steel, has a casting radius of 10250 mm for the production of square and round billets, and is equipped with electromagnetic mixers.
A new Vacuum Degasser (VDG) manufactured by the above-mentioned “Demora” Company and intended for the removal of gas contained in steel was installed in 2023. The amount of hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and non-metal compounds are reduced after processing of steel in CCM and VDG, thus achieving higher quality.
BSC plant is also fully equipped with technical water preparation equipment and water-cooling towers. The specialists of the company have mastered the DRI (Direct reduced iron, also called sponge iron) and HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron) melting process using new technologies, in addition to the iron scrap melting methods. For this purpose, the company installed a raw material handling system in cooperation with Danieli Company (Italy) intended for the melting of ferroalloys in furnaces.
The largest and most advanced Oxygen shop in the South Caucasus, which was opened in 2016 with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, is also owned by BSC and is used for the production of gaseous oxygen, liquid oxygen, and liquid nitrogen Oxygen produced by “Sigma H190” generator in the shop equipped with most innovative equipment of “Air Liquide” (France) is automatically regulated by 3-stage gas analyzers to a purity level of up to 99.9%. Nitrogen purity level is up to 99.5%.
The plant is also equipped with a Gas and Dust Collector with an output of 1.5 million m³/hr, which works with a special algorithm, has a perfect design, and meets environmental requirements.
In addition to the above, the plant is also equipped with innovative equipment manufactured in the USA, France, Italy, India, etc.
