Arif Amirov was born in Baku in 1989. He studied at the A. Azimzadeh State Art College (2005–2009) and at the Azerbaijan Academy of Fine Arts (2009–2013), specializing in painting. He later continued his education at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Germany, earning a bachelor’s degree (2015–2018) and a master’s degree (2019–2021). Since 2021, he has been a member of the Saxony-Anhalt Artists’ Association in Germany.
At the symposium, Arif Amirov presented his work “Sea.” “The Sea was born from my memory, a recollection of my childhood and teenage years. While living in Baku, I often went to the sea — and the rhythm of its waves fascinated me. All the children and adults gathered on the shore and admired the waves. After each strong wave there was a brief silence, a breath — a signal for us to jump into the water, merging with its rhythm. When the wave was small, we swam toward it, rising with it; if the wave was large and powerful, we ducked beneath, stayed briefly in the depths, and then resurfaced to breathe again.”
This thrilling feeling — a sense of awe, admiration, and unity with the sea — is unforgettable. The “Sea” is my attempt to express that memory and eternal rhythm through form.”
