At the symposium, Kamran Asadov presented his work “It Floats.” “As children, we used to fold thin paper boats and release them on the water. We did not know how they would move, but we believed the water would carry them. Later, we learned that even metal can float — when shaped correctly, water can support even the heavy items.
This sculpture is a meditation on water — a medium that accepts everything without resistance, holding memory, strength and play. The waves are created by rigid tubular structures, and on top of them, there stands a metal boat that looks like it was folded from paper. As in our childhood memories, it floats when it shouldn't, evoking a sense of wonder, amazement, and paradoxical balance of nature.”
