Jamal Shah was born in 1956 in Quetta, Islamic Republic of Pakistan. He holds master’s degrees in “Fine Arts” from the National College of Arts in Lahore, “English Literature” from the University of Balochistan, and “Visual Arts” from the Slade School of Fine Art in London, United Kingdom.
Jamal Shah is the founder of Hunerkada College of Visual and Performing Arts in Islamabad, as well as the Pakistan Silk Route Cultural Centre. His career spans sculpture, painting, theater, cinema, and art management. He has served as the Federal Minister of Culture, received international awards, and made significant contributions to the promotion of Pakistani art and culture.
At the symposium, Jamal Shah presented “Ancient Mehrgarh Fish” “Using the theme of water as the central motif, this work is inspired by the 9,500-year-old Mehrgarh civilization located in Balochistan, Pakistan.
The fish appears to be swimming or moving through water, with stylized waves in the composition emphasizing the dynamic relationship between form, water, and motion. At the same time, the work reflects the ancient symbolism with modern artistic expression, embodying the eternal connection between humanity and water.”
