"Baku Steel Company" CJSC is the first modern steel production enterprise established in the Caucasus region. The plant was officially inaugurated on June 21, 2001, with the participation of our national leader, Heydar Aliyev.

"The creation of such a metallurgical plant with foreign investment in the private sector in Azerbaijan is a clear example of the steadfast policy of the Azerbaijani state in the economic field"

Heydar Aliyev

Azerbaijan has an ancient history of metallurgy, but industrial-scale production of various metals began in the middle of the 19th century. At that time, new metal processing plants related to oil production and processing were created in our country. The metal parts and equipment required for these factories were mainly imported; only a small part was produced in machine-building factories based on small workshops. One of the plants above was the oil machine-building plant, which was founded in 1894 based on workshops established by the Austrian industrialist Levinson. The plant had steel casting, iron casting, and non-ferrous metal casting workshops. Steel was first melted in the Marten furnace, then in electric arc furnaces, and cast iron in a Petroshevsky melting unit.

During the Soviet years, metallurgy in Azerbaijan was divided into ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy industries. Azerbaijan Pipe Rolling Plant, which was built in 1946 in the city of Sumgayit and put into operation in 1952 (presently Pipe Rolling Plant of "Baku Steel Company" CJSC) was one of the largest ferrous metallurgical enterprises of the Azerbaijan SSR at that time. On December 31, 1952, Azerbaijan's first seamless heat-rolled pipe was obtained at the rolling mill "140". In 1954, "Azerbaijan steel" was melted in the Marten furnace. After the 1960s, 2 pipe rolling and billet rolling units, as well as 6 steel melting Marten furnaces, were built and put into operation at the plant.

September 20, 1994, was a breaking point in the history of the independent Republic of Azerbaijan in economic and geopolitical terms. On this date, the "Contract of the Century" was signed between our country and the world's leading oil and gas companies, laying the foundation for our national oil strategy. Thus, for large-scale oil and gas projects, there was a great demand for steel and its products, and the production of these products in the republic became the demand of the times. As a result of the visionary policy of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, this gap was eliminated in our growing economy, and the largest ferrous metallurgical enterprise of the Caucasus region - "Baku Steel Company" CJSC was put into operation.

Currently, the plant with an annual production capacity of 800,000 tons produces a wide range of products that fully meet the requirements of international standards. Equipped with modern technology, the "Baku Steel Company" CJSC products are well-regarded by construction professionals and customers both locally and internationally. The company has exported products to over 20 countries across Europe, Asia, America and Africa.

"Baku Steel Company" CJSC, one of the largest taxpayers in the non-oil sector of Azerbaijan, actively participates in the construction works across the country under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev. Currently, our products are dynamically used in the reconstruction and restoration works of our ancient and eternal land Karabakh after its liberation from occupation. We are proud to contribute to the revival of Karabakh.
